Reflection Blog #3

This class has been extremely helpful for me in terms of improving my writing. In high school, I used to love writing and took plenty of creative writing classes but in college, the only writing I have really done has been in my education classes. While I still love to write in those courses, my professors tend to grade the content, not necessarily the delivery. This course has pushed me to be more detailed and concise in my writing and for that I am grateful. I also enjoy the annotation work that we do in this class because one of my favorite things to do is analyze details of movies, books, TV shows, etc. There is ALWAYS meaning in what someone puts into their art. Asking why the author put a comma there or what might this chair symbolize is something I have always enjoyed doing (even if it drives my friends crazy when we are watching something). Art, in whatever form if comes in, should make you think and I believe this course is really pushing me to look into the literary pieces we are reading.

All of this is so nice to know, Taylor! Also, you made me laugh when you wrote about driving your friends crazy. I am that person also! I think annotating is SO MUCH FUN. It is great to know, too, that it’s helping you to get close attention to the form of your writing as well as the content. It is all too rare that we ever get someone’s focused attention on our writing, so it’s good to make the most of it when we can. I’m enjoying reading your work and having you in class again!
