Standard 11: Technology Standards for Teachers

Standard #11 Technology Standards for Teachers – (NETS-T*): Effective teachers model and apply the National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS-S**) as they design, implement, and assess learning experiences to engage students and improve learning; enrich professional practice; and provide positive models for students, colleagues, and the community. *Now known as ISTE Standards Teachers **Now known as ISTE Standards Students

Artifact 1: This artifact is my technology mini-lesson on the solar system for the third grade. It includes using whiteboards for students to display their prior knowledge, watching YouTube videos, and doing a Kahoot! based on the videos.

I chose this mini-lesson for my artifact because I believe it genuinely displays my understanding of the ISTE standards. The technology mini-lesson demonstrates the three E’s and doesn’t overuse technology either. The technology in this lesson was carefully used to further students understanding of the solar system. When we created the lesson, we made sure every piece of technology going into the lesson engaged, enhanced, and extended their learning.

Artifact 2: This artifact is my third teacher interview about using technology to support differentiation. In the interview, the teacher detailed what she does to differentiate using technology such as using platforms like Study Island.

The interview went really well and strengthened my understanding of the ISTE standards by talking to a teacher who is using technology to differentiate in real time. She found that the collaboration of a lesson is very important and students will help one another when someone does not understand a part of the technology. That was an interesting find to me because it certainly makes sense. After she mentioned it, my understanding of standard 11 deepened because I thought back to my fieldwork and realized that students did truly want to help one another.
