Learning Outcome 1

Looking back on my early work is pretty unpleasant. I definitely do not think I was a very skilled writer before this class. My sentence structure wasn’t the best and my writing as a whole was definitely subpar. In the beginning of the year, my approach to revising was not very thought out. It mainly consisted of simply reading over my first draft and seeing if it flowed well. Comparing that to my most recent first and final drafts, I have made a lot of changes. For my global revision process this time, I decided to write my topics that branched from my thesis on note cards and arrange them according to what made the most sense. Then I would write them out in paragraphs in that order. As for my local revision, I mainly just read over my paper as well as using spell check. I also read certain sentences out loud to a peer to ensure that the sentence was grammatically correct. Although my local revision generally remained the same, I believe my global revision has changed dramatically. I believe the way it has changed from simply reading the paper over to using note cards shows extreme development that I would not have had if I did not take this course. I am thankful to Mrs. Emerson for going over this strategy and for teaching us other great strategies. Without this course, my writing would still be unfortunate to read and I am very lucky to have learned such awesome strategies!
