Food Diary

  1. Have you calculated how many grams of protein, carbohydrate, and lipid, are recommended for you each day?

My goal number of calories was 1,490, carbs- 186g, fat- 50g, protein- 75g, sodium- 2,300mg, sugar- 56g.

2. On average, did you eat more than your recommended amount, less, or just the right amount?

On average, I ate around just the right amount of calories, under my goal for carbs, over for my goal for fat, under my goal for protein, over my goal for sodium, and under my goal for sugar.

3. Record your answers by putting a 1 in the appropriate places.

4. What conclusions can you draw about the nutritional value of the meals/snack this group of students is consuming?

It seems as though the dining hall does not have enough nutritional value in their food because the data shows that students are not getting enough calories or carbohydrates.

5. Assuming the majority of the food consumed is from the Commons dining hall and/or other venues on campus, what suggestions do you have for the food service managers?

I would suggest that based on the data, they should serve food with higher nutritional value that includes more carbohydrates, fats, and overall calories.

6. What spices do you wish were available in the dining hall? Are there nutrients in spices?

I personally don’t usually like spicy food but I’m sure there probably is some nutrients in spices.
